Secure Data Backup & Sync
It's definitely a good idea to backup passwords and other secure details regularly. PasswordPod is primarily a password manager and form filler and doesn't offer its own special backup facility. There are already freely available backup programs that do a very good job of it and backing up your secure data is no different from backing up any other important files on your computer.
One such backup (and sync) system is the increasingly popular Dropbox. When you install Dropbox on your computer, you specify a location for your Dropbox folder, then any files you drop into the folder are automatically backed up to your online account whenever changes are made to them. Dropbox stores a history of changes to your files online so you can always go back to an earlier version. You don't need to set up backup schedules and once you've installed it, you can forget about it. As a PasswordPod user, if you store your secure data file somewhere within the Dropbox folder, it will be backed up automatically as changes are made to the file content. You'll also be able to retrieve your files wherever you are by logging into your Dropbox online account.
Another major benefit of Dropbox is that you can link more than one computer to your Dropbox account. When you make changes to a file on one computer, not only are the changes uploaded to the online copy, but the changes are downloaded to the other linked computers too. This means you can always have an up-to-date copy of your secure data file on any of your computers without having to manually copy files between them.
Dropbox uses a secure connection between your computer and their website and, like PasswordPod, applies 256-bit AES encryption to your files.
A free Dropbox account includes more than enough storage to store your secure data files. Even with the free account, Dropbox is fully featured but if you need more space for other files, you can subscribe to upgrade your storage allowance.
