Records

A record can be used to store any kind of information. You can click on the Create secure details record button on the PasswordPod toolbar to create an empty record, then enter any information you want. Typically you'd store the login and other account details for a website. To create such a record, navigate to the web page in your browser and click on the Copy details from a web page form button on the toolbar. A new record will be created for you containing the details on the web page with one item listed for each field. Just delete the items you aren't interested in. To edit the record, click on the Edit secure details record toolbar button or double-click on any item in the list.

Record Details

Although PasswordPod tries to make sensible item names based on what it finds on the web page, web pages vary widely in the way they are designed and what you get ultimately depends on the page. However, items will be listed in the order they appear on the page, so bear that in mind if the labels seem wrong and you need to change them.

You can add extra items if you wish. Items linked to web page elements are colored blue. Ones you've added manually are gray. You can change the order of the items in the list using the buttons to the left. You can add blank items too if you want to visually separate groups of items. You can add any general notes if you wish - for a new line, press the Enter key on the keyboard and to insert a tab, hold down the Ctrl key whilst pressing the Tab key.

Also in the dialog is a section containing website details. The lower field in this section contains the address of the web page that will launch if you click on the button next to the record name in the program's main window. You can set this to whatever you want or leave it empty. The easiest way to change it is to copy and paste the desired address straight from the address field in the browser window. Above that is a list of web domain names. Say for example your record contains details about your Ebay account. The domains field might therefore contain the domain "signin.ebay.com", which is the domain name that appears in your browser's address bar when you log in. Other domains might be listed there too, depending on the website. You normally won't need to change this information, but if you know what you're doing, you can do so by clicking on the Manage button.

Manage Record Domains

The Manage Domains dialog allows complete control of which domains are associated with your record. Normally you would just merge records if they have different domain names and you know they are part of the same website. With this dialog you can add or remove domains from a record too. The list on the left shows all the domains associated with the records in your secure data file. To be able to more easily find the ones you are interested in, you can enter some characters in the field above, which will narrow down the choice to domains containing those consecutive characters. Just use the Add and Remove buttons to move domain names from one list to the other.
