Transferring between Web Pages and Records
Transferring From Web Pages
To transfer the details from a web page to a record, click on the
button on the toolbar. If this is the first time you've transferred any details from the website, PasswordPod will automatically create a new record for you, which you can then edit to tidy it up. See the Records page for further details about editing a record.
When you transfer a web page to a record, PasswordPod gets the domain name of the web page shown in the browser's address field and adds it to the record. For example, the domain name for the Ebay login page is "signin.ebay.com". If in future you transfer details from a web page containing that domain name, PasswordPod will ask you to choose if it should transfer the details to that record or create a new record instead. If you are transferring details about a different Ebay account, you would choose to create a new record. However, you will sometimes want to update an existing record with more information, so either scenario is possible. The choice dialog is shown below:

An alternative and easy way to create a record for a different account on the same website is to duplicate an existing record. Just right-click on the record in the tree in the main window and choose Duplicate.
When you use a website, sometimes you only ever need to enter a user name and password on one page. However, some sites have more complex login processes spanning several pages. You can transfer information from each of these pages as required and your record will be updated accordingly so all information for the site is kept seamlessly in one place. Note also that website owners sometimes change their pages. If your details are not being transferred to the page properly any more, you may need to transfer from the page again to update your record.
Sometimes a website will use different web domains for different parts of the site for which you might want to record information. For example, if your record is currently associated with "signin.ebay.com" but you want to transfer information from a page with the domain name "my.ebay.com", PasswordPod will detect that these domains are for the same organisation and will list your existing Ebay record in the choice dialog. However, sometimes the domains are very different so PasswordPod will just create a new record. In such cases, you can make use of the Merge function.

To merge a record with another, right-click on the record and in the dialog which appears, choose the record you want to merge it into. When you click the OK button, the original record will be deleted and the selected record will contain all the details of the original record, including its domains. To unmerge, just duplicate the record and delete what you don't want from each one.
Transferring to Web Pages
To transfer the details from a record to the current web page, click on the
button on the toolbar. PasswordPod automatically transfers details from records to web pages as you use your browser with no interaction required from you, although you can disable this option if you wish. If there is more than one record associated with the web domain of the page, you will be presented with a choice of records. Once you've made your choice, it is remembered and automatic transfers will transfer to that record from then on. To change your choice in future, you can do so in one of two ways:
- Right-click on the system tray icon to transfer to the page. You will always be presented with a choice when transferring this way. The one you select will become the new default.
- Select the record you want to use in the main window and click on the transfer button on the toolbar. The selected record is used for the transfer so long as it is one of the records associated with the web page's domain.
