Web Page Transfer

It's easy to associate a record with a website. If a web page contains any forms, the information on the form can be transferred from the web page to a record in a single operation. Also, PasswordPod can automatically fill a web page using the information held in the record whenever you browse to the page, which is the default option.

When you visit a web page using your browser, any record corresponding to that website is automatically selected in the main window, so you can quickly see the associated details and any additional notes you've made.

Transfer from a Web Page Form Transferring from Web Pages

To create a record that is associated with a website, go to the web page using your web browser, enter some details in the web form and click on the Get information from web page form button. PasswordPod then reads the contents of the web page, creates a new record and displays it in the main window. The record is named based on the website address and will be used to contain information about all pages in that website. A new record created in this way is always placed in the top level of the tree in the main window. If you already have a record for that website, the record is updated.

A notice will be displayed during the transfer:

Transferring form details from web page

You should wait until the notice disappears before browsing to a different web page or closing the browser, otherwise the transfer will not be able to complete. How quickly the transfer happens depends on the number of form elements on the page.

If the Remember details on web page form button or "Transfer Data From Web Page" menu option never seem to be enabled, ensure that you are using a compatible web browser.

You might want to edit the record to change its name or the names of the individual items. You can delete some of the record items if you wish - many web pages contain a number of forms for doing web searches, surveys etc and you probably won't be interested in keeping all those details in your record.

Although PasswordPod tries to make sensible item names based on what it finds on the web page, web pages vary widely in the way they are designed and what you get ultimately depends on the individual page. However, item values will be listed in the order they appear on the page, so bear that in mind if the labels seem wrong and you need to change them.

You can also add new items to the record manually if you wish. Items that you add manually are not transferred along with the other items to the web page, but you might find them useful, for example a telephone password for customer services which is different from the online password.

If you transfer details from a web page to an existing record, the record name and the names of the items are not replaced - only the values are replaced.

Copy Secure Login Details to a Web Page Form Transferring to Web Pages

When your browser contains a web page that has an associated record, the Copy login information to web page button and "Transfer Data To Web Page" menu option will be enabled. If you click on the button or menu option, data will be transferred to the current web page from the linked record. If you are using a tabbed browser, the current web page is the one showing in the currently active tab. If you have a number of browsers open, the current page is the one in the most recently active browser.

The default setting is to transfer details to web pages automatically as you browse to them, although you can change this and opt for only manual transfer instead using the Preferences window.

The owners of a website might change the structure of a page from time to time. This will usually not affect you, but if you find that your data is not all being transferred to the page, you may need to update your record by transferring data from the page to the record again.
